6 Newborn Baby Care Tips
Here are 6 newborn baby care tips for new moms:1. If the milk formula you gave to your baby resulted into an upset stomach, you should immediately consult a doctor to find out if there is a need to switch formulas. If switching from breastfeeding to formula feeding, choose the nipples that have similarity to the breast nipples to avoid confusion and refusal to feed.2. In feeding your baby, make sure that he is in a semi-sitting position to keep air from entering the baby's stomach. Do not prop the bottle when feeding as it could cause choking. It would be ideal to hold your baby when feeding him as it could promote your bonding with him. Tooth decay may be the result of leaving the bottle on the baby's mouth while he is sleeping.3. It is common for babies to swallow air while feeding from a bottle or even when breastfeeding. It is necessary that he be burped or he might vomit. When trying to burp him and he does not burp, that simply means that he did not swallow much air. As the baby ages, the need to burp him will no longer be necessary.4. If you are formula feeding, it would be ideal to burp him midway and at the end of the feeding. Make sure that the nipple is filled with milk all the time he is feeding so that air is not swallowed. If breastfeeding, burp the baby before switching breasts. Breastfed babies may not need burping since they are likely to swallow less or no air at all.5. Babies normally spit up after feeding especially when not burped. It need not be cause for worry since it is normal and will disappear as the baby ages. It is however different from vomiting as the former only meant spilling over. If the baby showed continued vomiting, you need to consult a doctor.6. There are three ways to burp your baby, (1) by holding him against your chest while supporting his head over your shoulder and patting his back gently with your hand, (2) by sitting him on your lap while using one hand to support his chin and lean him forward while patting his back with your hand and (3) by putting your baby across your leg while patting or rubbing his back while making sure that his head is supported.
